… reaffirms Senator Yayi as its duly nominated governorship candidate for Ogun
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election and petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the State Security Service to investigate, arrest and prosecute him for impersonation.
The party’s disclaimer and the petition letters, sighted by Eagle 102.5FM, Ilese Ijebu, were issued on Monday, August 24th, as the contest over the APC’s Ogun governorship ticket escalates.
In a disclaimer signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the APC said Hunye remains suspended and lacks the legal or moral standing to represent the party in any capacity. The party named Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan as its duly nominated governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as running mate, and said both names had been uploaded to the INEC portal, which issued acknowledgment slips confirming their submission on August 7, 2026.
According to party documents, Hunye’s suspension originated from a petition filed by the Executive Committee of his ward, Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area, on March 23, 2026, over alleged “nefarious dealings” and “anti-party activities.”
The Ipokia Local Government Executive Committee ratified the suspension on March 27, 2026, citing compliance with Article 21 of the APC constitution. The Ogun State Working Committee gave its own approval on April 7, 2026, after a meeting at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, and formally notified the APC’s national screening committee for governorship aspirants of the ratification on May 5, 2026.
The APC warned that anyone transacting political business with Hunye “under the guise of the APC” does so at their own risk, and cautioned media houses against granting him a platform. The party said its legal team had been instructed to pursue contempt proceedings.
Petitions to IGP, DSS
In separate letters dated August 24, 2026, the APC’s Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, petitioned the Inspector General of Police at Force Headquarters, Abuja, and the Director General of the State Security Service, alleging that Hunye’s conduct amounted to impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and a violation of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The party asked both agencies to invite Hunye for questioning, prosecute him after investigation, and restrain him from further parading himself as a governorship candidate. Records show the petition was received at Force Headquarters on August 24, 2026, and by the DSS the same evening at 6:39 p.m. The APC pledged the full cooperation of its national and Ogun State structures with any investigation.
The move deepens the contest over who legitimately carries the APC’s flag into the January 2027 Ogun State governorship race.
