From Idris Khalid, Bauchi

A coalition of concerned people of Bauchi State and other support groups affiliated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pledged to mobilise about 10,000 volunteers across the state to galvanise thousands of votes for the party’s 2027 governorship candidate, Senator Halliru Dauda Jika.

The groups said the volunteers would spearhead grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Hon. Ahmed Yero, made the declaration yesterday at a press conference in Bauchi while speaking on behalf of the groups, urged residents, particularly youths, women and other eligible voters, to participate actively in the electoral process.

Yero said the commencement of the 2027 electioneering period provided an opportunity for members of the coalition, ADC supporters and other residents of the state to mobilise and exercise their civic rights.

He called on the people of Bauchi State to join what he described as a movement aimed at promoting good governance and purposeful leadership in the state.

According to him, Senator Halliru Dauda Jika, who has been affirmed as the ADC governorship candidate for Bauchi State, is currently consulting with stakeholders across the state, including elders, women and youths.

Yero said Jika would commence his campaign activities in the coming weeks, urging residents to join the campaign as volunteers and participate in various aspects of the electioneering process.

“We call on Bauchi State youths, men and women to come out en masse to join the movement as volunteers and participate at various levels of the electioneering process,” he said.

The coalition also appealed to the media to give adequate coverage to its activities and help amplify its message during the electioneering period.

Yero further urged voters to reject vote-buying and exercise their franchise based on their preferred candidates and policies rather than material inducements.

He said Jika, if elected, had pledged to focus on areas including security, education, healthcare, business development and the general welfare of residents, with particular attention to youths, women, widows and persons living with special needs.

The ADC had earlier affirmed Jika as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State election during its primary process in May 2026.
