The Executive Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Council, Bayelsa State, Hon. Mrs Alice Tangi Allen, has extolled the virtues of the nation’s fallen heroes who fought courageously and selflessly for the unity of the country.
She praised them for discharging their duties in defence of our dear country, Nigeria.
Mrs Alice made the remarks when giving her commemorative speech at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Sagbama, the headquarters of Sagbama Local Government Area.
The ceremony which attracted many dignitaries was used by the Council Chairman to emphasize the magnitude of giving honour to those Military personnel who made ultimate sacrifices in defending the territorial integrity and preserving the Sovereignty of Nigeria.
“Today, 15th January 2025, I stand to acknowledge the legendary impacts of our Fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Let us use this day to evaluate their dauntlessness, fidelity and unrelenting passion towards our country. They have made monumental and poignant accomplishments to the building of a peaceful and confederal nation,” she said.
While praying for the repose of their souls, she reinstated her administration’s commitment to providing support to families of the Veterans as contained in their address read at the ceremony.
Earlier in their address signed by the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Sagbama branch, Major Brown Tambiri rtd, they appealed to the Council Chairman and other political leaders in Sagbama to provide tokens to the families of the deceased to appreciate their efforts.
The Legionnaires, while still appealing for the creation of a functional office for easy communication with the Governor of Bayelsa State Sen. Douye Diri and the Council Chairman, called for a reflection of how the families of the fallen heroes have been surviving without their loved ones.
Highlights of the ceremony was observing a moment of silence to the fallen heroes, parade by the Legionnaires and Youth Corps member, laying of Wreaths by the Executive Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Council, the Vice Chairman, the Leader of the Sagbama Local Government Legislative Arm, the Divisional Police Officer of Sagbama, and a representative of the Traditional Rulers.
