A 14-year-old girl from Gombe State who was married off to an unknown man in Taraba has been rescued.
The Gombe Women affairs and Social Development Commissioner, Asma’u Iganus confirmed the teenager’s rescue.
According to the commissioner, the teenager was married off to a wealthy man as his fourth wife.
“This is a gross abuse of her fundamental rights, and we will not tolerate it,” she said.
Iganus added, “Legal action is already underway to secure her (girl’s) freedom and hold the perpetrators accountable.”
On her part, Barrister Marilyn Na’omi from the state Ministry of justice vowed that government would not let the case go without consequences.
She added that “No child should face such a violation.”
