A disagreement between a Nigerian man and police officers over their demand for a NAFDAC registration number from a zobo drink seller has triggered reactions online.

In a video that went viral on Wednesday, the officers were seen questioning a woman about the bottled zobo drinks she was selling, asking her to produce the products’ National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control registration number and labels.

Defending the request, one of the officers insisted that the drinks should carry a NAFDAC registration number.

“This thing is supposed to have a NAFDAC number. Does this thing have a NAFDAC number? As a police officer, don’t I have the right to ask?” the officer said.

This request, however, did not sit well with onlookers.

A man at the scene who recorded the incident, however, challenged the officers’ demand, questioning whether they had the authority to request the product’s registration details.

His intervention led to a tense exchange between him and the officers, as the disagreement over the inspection of the locally made drink unfolded.

He said, “I be content creator, I go put am for social media. This na ordinary zobo. Una no dey do your work? Ordinary zobo. Over four hours, for what now?”
