. Ondo Gov Aiyedatiwa mourns elder statesman’s demise

Elder statesman and Leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti is dead.
Fasoranti passed away in Akure, Ondo State, capital on Tuesday afternoon barely five months after celebrating his 100th year birthday.
The late centenarian had been variously described as a symbol of patriotism, democratic ideals and principled leadership whose contributions to Nigeria’s political evolution remain indelible.
Born born in Akure over a century ago, Pa Fasoranti distinguished himself as a teacher, school administrator, politician and advocate of good governance.
The elder statesman served as Commissioner for Finance in old Ondo State during the administration of late former governor, Michael Adekunle Ajasin, between 1979 and 1983, while also contributing immensely to educational development through the establishment of schools, including Omolere Nursery School and Akure High School extensions.
Pa Fasoranti was one of Nigeria’s foremost voices for democracy, federalism and restructuring, having played active roles in the nation’s pro-democracy struggles under the tutelage of nationalist leaders such as Obafemi Awolowo.
The Afenifere leader endured persecution and hardship during the military era but remained steadfast in his conviction that democratic governance represented the best path for Nigeria’s growth and unity.
He was also described as a national treasure whose counsel and moral authority continued to inspire leaders across generations.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has mourned the demise of Pa Fasoranti.
He said the death of the centenarian death was a great loss to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria, stating that the late Afenifere leader’s life was characterised by wisdom, integrity and selfless service.
According to the governor’s condolence message on Tuesday, Fasoranti devoted his life to the development of Ondo State and Nigeria, leaving behind an enduring legacy of honour and principled leadership.
Aiyedatiwa expressed regret that the late elder statesman’s counsel, fatherly guidance and unwavering commitment to justice and good governance would be greatly missed.
He condoled the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and the entire people of Ondo State over the elder statesman’s passing.
Aiyedatiwa also prayed that God would grant the family the fortitude to bear the great loss.
The governor also prayed for the peaceful repose of Pa Fasoranti’s soul.
