… incident confirmed as police, military personnel storm crash site for rescue operations
Tragedy struck on Monday when a helicopter crashed in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing a yet-to-ascertained number of people.

A source said the helicopter crashed in a swampy area of Igbokoda.
But the number of casualties remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.
According to the source, some people were killed, particularly the occupants of the ill-fated helicopter.
A rescue operation was said to have been carried out in the area by police and military personnel, who later stormed the scene of the crash.
The source said, “It happened this morning. We heard a very loud sound in the area where the incident occurred, but we could not get there because the place is a swampy area inside the creek; we are just looking at it from afar.
“But the police and the military people later came around there for rescue, but the occupants of the helicopter might have died there.”
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said investigation into the incident had already begun.
“The Ondo State Police Command confirms the reported aircraft crash in the Igbokoda axis of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday, 5th October 2026. Details surrounding the incident are still emerging, as efforts to establish the full circumstances continue,” he said.
The PPRO urged members of the public, particularly residents of Igbokoda and adjoining communities, to remain calm, warning them against circulating unverified information.
“The public will be duly informed as soon as further credible information becomes available,” the police spokesman said.
