Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has blamed poor marksmanship for his team’s defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.

Madugu’s side were eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium on Sunday night.

Myriam Nyadjou’s 19th minute free-kick separated the teams on the night.

Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina produced a spectacular performance to deny Nigeria victory.

The Indomitable Lionesses, who will face hosts Morocco in the semi-final in Rabat on Wednesday night, have also qualified for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons will however face Banyana Banyana of South Africa in a play-in match for another opportunity to qualify for the World Cup.

Madugu said the result would have been different if the Super Falcons had managed to convert their chances.

“It was not our intention to lose. If we had been more clinical, the game could have been different.” Madugu said after the game.
