…meet at ex-president’s Abeokuta OOPL Penthouse
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the former governors of Ekiti and Osun states, Kayode Fayemi and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, on Sunday, held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The trio met at Obasanjo’s Penthouse residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Sunday’s meeting was not the first time Obasanjo is meeting with opposition candidates. Before now, the former president had met with the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
There are speculations that Obasanjo might be working behind the scene to bring some opposition presidential candidates together to form a mega coalition for the purpose of the 2027 presidential election.
After the Abeokuta meeting on Sunday, Governor Makinde, in a Facebook post, confirmed that the meeting focused on key national issues ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Earlier today (Sunday), we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general elections. We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history,” the Oyo Governor wrote.
Makinde is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement for the 2027 election. Oyinlola was a major stakeholder of the Peoples Democratic Party under which Obasanjo was elected twice served as President for eight years, while Fayemi, a major chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, has reportedly fallen out with leaders of the ruling party.
Fayemi is known to be a critic of the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC.
