Ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, running mate of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Benjamin Adereti, has inaugurated 360 canvassers to work for the party in Odo Otin Local Government Area.

According to a statement made available on Saturday by the sponsor of the initiative, Bello Basheer, 20 canvassers and four coordinators are drawn from each of the 15 wards in the local government area.

“The initiative comprises 20 canvassers and four coordinators from each of the 15 wards in Odo-Otin Local Government, bringing the total number of campaign personnel to 360,” the statement read.

Speaking at the inauguration in Inisa, Adereti, who was represented by Sola Soladoye, charged members of the team to remain steadfast and committed to the assignment.

He assured residents that, if elected governor, the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would run an all-inclusive and grassroots-driven administration.

He also commended Basheer for supporting Oyebamiji’s campaign through the initiative, describing it as a “Strategic grassroots mobilisation platform that would strengthen the party’s campaign across Odo-Otin Local Government.”

He added, “The inauguration of the BABS Canvassers demonstrates the commitment of our party leaders to ensuring that every eligible voter, particularly first-time voters and those who are yet to make up their minds, are adequately engaged ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Elections are won through effective grassroots participation, and I have no doubt that this team will make a significant impact across the 15 wards in Odo-Otin Local Government.

“I urge every member of the canvassing team to carry out this assignment with dedication, discipline and respect for the electorate. Our campaign is built on the promise of inclusive governance, sustainable development and improved welfare for the people of Osun State.”

Earlier, the convener of the BABS Canvassers, Basheer, explained that the initiative would serve as a grassroots mobilisation platform to engage undecided and first-time voters across Odo Otin Local Government Area.

He added that the canvassers were assembled to complement the APC’s campaign by strengthening voter engagement and expanding the party’s grassroots reach ahead of the election.

He, however, urged stakeholders and APC supporters to remain committed to the party’s success, stressing that their collective support would provide the momentum needed to achieve the initiative’s objectives.

Voters in Osun State will go to the polls on August 15 to elect a governor. The incumbent, Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.

The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, and former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Dr Najeem Salaam, who is contesting on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, alongside candidates of 11 other political parties, are also in the race.
