The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Bayelsa Chapter has commemorated the 2026 World Environment Day with an impactful programme focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
According to APWEN,Bayelsà chapter led by the chairman, Engr. Amalate Ann-Jonathan Obuebite Ph.D FNSE, said the celebration was marked with a public lecture on Engineering Waste Management: Circular Economy and Recycling Innovations.
Obuebite said the APWEN,Bayelsa also invited students, educators professionals, and community leaders to commemorate the 2026 World Environment Day with an impactful programme focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The event, which was held at the Nembe National Grammar School, Nembe in Nembe Local Government of the State, also witnessed a public lecture will explore practical engineering solutions to waste management challenges, the principles of the circular economy, and innovative recycling technologies that can contribute to environmental sustainability, economic growth, and climate resilience.
“In addition, the programme featured the donation of Recycling Bins to promote proper waste segregation, encourage recycling practices, and foster environmental consciousness among students and members of the host community.”
“This event served as a platform to educate, inspire, and mobilize collective action towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. Participants will gain valuable insights into the role of engineering in addressing environmental challenges and advancing sustainable development.”
