The Central Planning and Coordinating Committee for the Coronation of the Aren Eggon, His Royal Highness, Honourable Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku I, OFR, CJ (rtd), has announced that the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, has approved Saturday, 13th June, 2026, as the official date for the presentation of the Staff of Office to the Aren Eggon.
The historic event will formally usher in the reign of His Royal Highness, Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku I, as the Paramount Ruler of the Eggon nation and one of the foremost traditional rulers in Nasarawa State.
Recall that Justice Ubangari ascended to the revered stool of Aren Eggon, the paramount traditional ruler of the Eggon people upon his selection by the Eggon Kingmakers on Friday 5th May 2023. Prior to his selection, he served dutifully as the Wazirin Eggon during the reign of his predecessor, HRH Dr. Bala Abaine Angbazo (MFR, JP), who passed on on Wednesday 13th July 2022.
The occasion of his coronation is particularly significant as it marks the presentation of a Staff of Office to an Aren Eggon in over four decades. The last such ceremony took place on Saturday 12th February 1983, when the then Governor of Plateau State, Solomon Lar, presented the Staff of Office to the immediate past Aren Eggon, Dr. Bala Abaine Angbazo.
It is important to note that the Aren Eggon stool was upgraded to 1st Class Status on 1st June 1982 by the Plateau State Government.
The forthcoming ceremony therefore represents not only a celebration of royal heritage and cultural identity, but also a historic milestone for the Eggon people across Nasarawa State, Nigeria, and the diaspora.
A statement jointly signed by the Chairman,
Rt Hon Danladi Jatau, Phd, Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly and Alternate Chairman, Alhaji Isiyaku Abdullahi Galadiman Eggon on behalf of the Central Planning and Coordinating Committee for the Coronation of the Aren Eggon said the committee “hereby calls on all Eggon sons and daughters, traditional institutions, community leaders, political stakeholders, friends, associates, and well-wishers of the Eggon nation to prepare to be part of this epoch-making event.”
Activities lined up for the coronation ceremony are expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage, unity, and enduring traditions of the Eggon people.
It added that further details regarding venue, programme of events, accommodation, security arrangements, and participation guidelines will be communicated in due course.
The Committee urged all invited guests and supporters to cooperate with constituted authorities and the planning committee to ensure a peaceful, colourful and successful ceremony.
