From Seyi Tayese, Yenagoa

A Professor of Educational Research and Director of Graduate Research at the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Peter James Kpolovie, has been named the 2026 Scientist of the Year by the International Achievements Research Center (IARC), Canada.

The organisation in a letter dated April 30, 2026, said Kpolovie emerged winner after a rigorous review of numerous nominations submitted for the global competition.

The letter signed by the IARC Competition Director, Serge Ivaschenko, said the selection process involved a comprehensive assessment of candidates’ achievements, potential, and the impact of their professional contributions on society.

IARC said Kpolovie was recognised in the Social Sciences/Educational Research and Policy category, with particular emphasis on Educational Measurement, Statistics, and Research Methodology.

The centre commended the lecturer’s outstanding contributions to educational research, especially his advancement of statistical methodology, promotion of practical research frameworks globally, and sustained efforts in strengthening data-driven inquiry and innovation across the social sciences.

The letter said: “As such, in recognition of your impressive accomplishments and commitment to excellence, we are honoured to name you Scientist of the Year 2026”.

As part of the recognition, the awardee has been featured on a dedicated winner’s page on the organisation’s official website and will receive a Certificate of Recognition embedded with a QR code linking to his profile.

He is also granted the perpetual right to use the official “Scientist of the Year 2026 Winner Emblem” in his academic and professional engagements.

The IARC further invited Kpolovie to publish a scientific or informational article free of charge in its International Tribune platform, as part of efforts to promote his work internationally.

His name, alongside other winners, will be announced on the organisation’s website and social media channels to highlight achievements in science and technology.

The centre expressed appreciation for his participation in the competition and wished him continued success in his future endeavours.
