The strategic deployment of cutting edge surveillance technology by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, TSSNL, has dealt a decisive blow to illegal crude oil export networks in the Niger Delta.

This has triggered a remarkable surge in Nigeria’s oil production to about 1.84 million barrels per day.

A new special report reveals that Tantita’s technology driven operations have fundamentally reshaped the fight against oil theft, introducing real time monitoring across pipelines, waterways and previously inaccessible terrains long exploited by criminal syndicates. At the heart of this transformation is the use of advanced drones fitted with infrared capabilities, enabling round the clock detection of illegal refining sites and covert vessel movements, even under the cover of darkness.

These enhanced surveillance systems have proven pivotal in uncovering and dismantling hidden export channels, including clandestine jetties and illegal loading terminals used to siphon stolen crude offshore. Through coordinated aerial intelligence and reinforced marine patrols, Tantita operatives have intercepted specialized vessels designed for illicit crude evacuation, effectively choking off critical supply routes.

With an operational footprint spanning over 20,000 square kilometres and covering 2,366 kilometres of pipeline infrastructure, Tantita has deployed technology to dominate challenging terrains such as creeks, mangroves and offshore corridors.

This expansive coverage has significantly improved response times and precision targeting of criminal operations.
The report highlights an exceptional operational success rate of between 97 and 99 percent, well above the contractual benchmark of 95 percent, across key oil producing states including Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Edo and parts of Ondo.

The surveillance network also extends to nearly 4,000 wellheads and extensive flowline systems.

Crucially, intelligence gathered from these systems has exposed sophisticated oil theft mechanisms, including illegal pipeline connections and diversion channels that funnel crude through makeshift canals into concealed storage hubs before export. It has also uncovered illicit distribution networks and black market trading routes.

By synchronizing aerial surveillance with ground and marine enforcement, Tantita has effectively dismantled the entire oil theft value chain, from illegal extraction to final export.

This aggressive crackdown has delivered tangible economic gains. Nigeria’s crude oil production, which plunged to 972,394 barrels per day in August 2022, has rebounded sharply to 1.84 million barrels per day as of April 2026, underscoring the impact of enhanced monitoring and enforcement.

The legal dragnet has been equally significant. The report documents 586 arrests linked to oil theft and illegal export activities, with 225 cases initiated, 125 currently before the courts and 28 convictions already secured.

Operational safety has also improved markedly, with minimal casualties recorded due to better intelligence coordination and reduced exposure to high risk environments.
The report concludes that Tantita’s bold investment in advanced surveillance infrastructure and high grade operational assets has not only crippled illegal export routes but also restored confidence in Nigeria’s oil production system. It has delivered a critical boost to national revenue and energy security.
