Three people have been killed in a violent clash between Hausa and Fulani residents in the Alwasa area of Argungu, Kebbi State.
It was gathered that crisis erupted when some Fulani youths arrived in the community and engaged in motorcycle stunts, attracting the anger of some local youths.
During the ensuing altercation, a Hausa resident was allegedly stabbed and later died.
The situation escalated when angry youths reportedly carried out reprisal attacks on Fulani residents in nearby settlements, leading to the deaths of two persons said to be unconnected to the initial incident.
While briefing Governor Nasir Idris during his visit to the area, the Chairman of Argungu Local Government Area, Alhaji Sani Aliyu Gulma, confirmed that the violence was triggered by the stabbing of a resident.
Governor Idris condemned the killings and called on both Hausa and Fulani communities to remain calm and avoid reprisals.
He warned that his administration would not tolerate any individual or group taking the law into their hands.
The governor urged community leaders, youth groups and traditional rulers to intensify efforts towards peacebuilding, dialogue and restraint.
He also appealed to the affected families to remain patient and law-abiding, assuring that the government would take necessary steps to ensure justice.
Idris further directed security agencies to intensify investigations, apprehend those responsible for the violence, restore confidence in the affected communities and ensure the safe return of displaced residents.
