From Khalid Idris Doya, Bauchi
The newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Abubakar Isa Baba, has expressed dissatisfaction over the attitude of some teachers at Shadawanka Primary School in Bauchi.
The chairman expressed concern during a familiarisation visit to several primary and junior secondary schools within the Bauchi metropolis yesterday.
Alhaji Isa Baba noted that teachers remain the backbone of a strong and responsible basic education system in any society, stressing the need for them to demonstrate commitment and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
During a visit to Baba Sidi Primary School, the SUBEB chairman observed that many pupils were absent from school. He therefore called on parents and guardians to take full responsibility for the education of their children by ensuring regular school attendance.
However, at Kobi Model Junior and Primary School, the chairman expressed satisfaction with the performance of both teachers and pupils.
He said he was particularly pleased that all the teachers were present during the visit and that classrooms were filled with pupils actively engaged in learning.
In their separate responses, the Headteachers and Principals of the schools visited expressed appreciation for the chairman’s visit. They pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them and prayed for Allah’s guidance for the newly appointed SUBEB chairman in the discharge of his responsibilities.
Schools visited during the tour included Baba Sidi Primary School, Shadawanka Primary School, Kobi Primary School, and Kobi Model School.
Other schools visited were Nassarawa Primary School, Wunti Primary School, and Kofar Wase Junior and Primary School, all located within the Bauchi metropolis.
