An explosion has occurred at the
Zungeru Hydro Electricity Plant in Niger State, leaving many workers seriously injured.
The explosion at the N1.3 billion worth power plant reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday.
It was learnt that a Chinese engineer, security personnel, and several workers were injured while some installations were destroyed.
The Chinese engineer was said to be conducting a routine check when the explosion occurred.
Those injured, it was gathered, were taken to the Minna General Hospital.
The engineer was said to have been first admitted in the emergency ward of the hospital where he’s being treated for burns on the head and hand. But due to the high degree of the burns, he was referred to the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna for advanced medical attention.
The number of the workers and security personnel injured are currently unknown.
Details of the explosion were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report.
In April, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu said the 700 megawatts capacity plant had been connected to the National Grid.
Adebayo added that Nigeria’s electricity increased to 4,800MW from 4,200MW for a population estimated at over 200 million.
