The Senate and the House of Representatives are to hold a joint sitting on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 to mark 25 years of the restoration of democracy in Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to lead other leaders, including Governors and former leaders to attend the joint sitting, which will take place at the Chamber of the House of Representatives.

President Tinubu is also expected to inaugurate the new National Assembly Library complex named after him.

 Former military head of state, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar is expected to present a talk on “Reflections on the journey to democracy.”

Former Senate President, David Mark, is expected to reflect on the journey so far by the Senate while former Speaker of the House and current  Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, will speak on the journey so far by the House.

Vice President Kashim Shettima; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors forum, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, FCT Minister, among others are also expected at the special session.

Senate President, Senator Godswill  Akpabio will preside over the session which has as its theme: “25 years of the National Assembly: Lessons & opportunities” while President Tinubu will present an address during the joint session.
