Kogi Gov shielding Yahaya Bello with immunity, Northern group alleges

Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly, on Thursday, urged President Bola Tinubu to call to order Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, over his alleged protection of his predecessor, Yahaya Bello.

The group accused Ododo of undermining the Federal Government’s anti-corruption crusade with the refuge he’s been offering Bello.

NEYGA, in a statement by its spokesperson, Ibrahim Dan-Musa, accused Governor Ododo of misusing his immunity by shielding Bello, who has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

According to the group, Ododo has been transporting Bello, including trips to Abuja where they are lobbying influential figures to intervene on his predecessor’s behalf.

NEYGA further alleged that during the Sallah celebrations in Okene, Governor Ododo’s convoy brought Bello home but he remained indoors throughout his stay, and afterwards, they returned together to his hiding place in the Government House.

NEYGA condemned Ododo’s actions as directly undermining President Tinubu’s anti-corruption efforts, warning that if left unchecked it’s capable of setting a dangerous precedent.

The group enjoined the EFCC to remain steadfast despite Bello’s attempts to manipulate public opinion in his favour, following his alleged massive looting of state resources.

NEYGA stressed that it’s important Bello answered for his crimes, including the abduction of individuals during his tenure as governor.

It further called on the nation to stand firm against corruption and resist any form of blackmail.

NEYGA’s statement read, “We must not allow corruption to fight back and undermine our collective efforts to build a just and equitable society.

“We urge President Tinubu to take decisive action and curb Ododo’s sabotage of the EFCC’s efforts to bring Yahaya Bello to justice.”

The Northern group also appealed to the people of Kogi State to reject politicians who prioritize personal interests over the welfare of the citizens.

It urged residents to demand accountability and transparency from their leaders and not to be swayed by empty promises and political manipulation.

NEYGA restated its support for the EFCC and its commitment to fighting corruption at all levels.

The group also vowed to continue monitoring the situation in Kogi State and holding those responsible for corruption accountable.

NEYGA further enjoined Nigerians to remain united in the fight against corruption, stressing that it’s only through collective efforts that the nation can overcome the scourge of corruption and build a better future for all citizens.
