The immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo state, Comrade Philip Shaibu said he was shocked and saddened by the alleged rape and gruesome murder of Miss Adekolure Idowu Glory, a young and promising recent graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
Reports indicate that Glory, 22, was brutally tortured and raped by unknown assailants in Iyowa Community, Benin City, on June 13, while returning home from her final year clearance. Her remains were discovered near her mother’s house.
Shaibu called on Nigerians to collectively condemn this heinous act in the strongest possible terms.
“The notion that a young woman can be tortured, raped, and murdered in broad daylight is utterly unacceptable and demands immediate action.
“I urge security agents to spare no effort in apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring they face the full wrath of the law.
“As a pro-Girl Child advocate, I believe our girls deserve to thrive, pursue their dreams, and reach their full potential without fear of violence or harm. Let us unite to create a society where our girls are safe, valued, and empowered.
“My heart goes out to her family, friends, and the University of Benin community during this difficult time.
“Rest in peace, dear Glory. Your life was tragically cut short, but your memory will live on in our hearts.”
