As Ismail Omipidan approaches his 50th birthday, it is only fitting to reflect on his unwavering commitment, professional excellence, and the invaluable role he played in the Oyetola administration. While some disgruntled elements now resort to spewing falsehoods, Omipidan’s legacy remains untainted, built on competence, dedication, and an unyielding commitment to the truth.
On November 14, 2022, Thompson Taiwo of Rave FM, a respected journalist, penned an opinion that perfectly captured the essence of Omipidan’s service. He described him as one of the Oyetola administration’s shining stars, a man who didn’t just speak for the governor but for the entire executive arm. Unlike many political appointees who only occupied office space, Omipidan worked tirelessly to bridge the government’s information gap, ensuring that accurate and timely communication was always in place. As Taiwo rightly noted, if others had put in as much effort as he did, perhaps the political outcome would have been different.
Beyond politics, Omipidan’s humility, accessibility, and deep understanding of mass communication set him apart. He never used the excuse of being “too busy” to respond when duty called. If he didn’t have the information needed, he ensured the right source was contacted. His swift intervention in a tense live broadcast on Rave FM where he rushed to the studio to manage a crisis involving the Amotekun Corps speaks volumes about his sense of responsibility and crisis management skills.
For those now attempting to question his credibility, a reminder of his pedigree is necessary. His journey from Kaduna Polytechnic to the University of Maiduguri and the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) for his National Diploma, BSc, and Master’s degrees underscores his intellectual depth. As a spokesperson for a sitting governor in a state known for its intellectual vibrancy, Omipidan didn’t just occupy the office, he elevated its standard.
Even among his peers, he is widely respected. Ojo Shola, in his remarks on Taiwo’s post, emphasized Omipidan’s rare blend of professionalism and humanity. He described him as a man with an unwavering understanding of mass communication and the audacity to stand by his convictions. Unlike many spokespersons who thrive on arrogance, Omipidan remained firm yet approachable, always ensuring that the right narratives were upheld.
As he turns 50 in some days to come, no amount of political bitterness or revisionist history can erase his contributions. The noise from envious detractors will fade, but Omipidan’s legacy as a professional, dedicated, and highly competent media strategist will stand the test of time. Here’s to a man who gave everything, may the years ahead bring even greater achievements.
