Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the sum of N1 billion as annual bursary for the state’s students in tertiary institutions.
State’s Commissioner for Education, Dr Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, who announced this in a statement, on Sunday, said the step is a landmark initiative that shows the commitment of the Governor to securing the future of Edo youths.
“It is a new dawn for Edo Students. I join Edo students in celebrating this landmark initiative that reaffirms the commitment of the Governor of Edo State to securing the future of our youth.
Dr Iyamu’s statement partly read, “The Executive Governor of Edo State has once again demonstrated unparalleled visionary leadership by approving a ₦1 Billion annual bursary scheme for Edo students in tertiary institutions. This bold, historic move is not just an investment in education, it is a direct investment in human capital, dreams, and destinies of thousands of our young men and women.
“This initiative marks a transformative moment in the history of Edo State, as the Okpebholo-led administration continues to prioritize education as the cornerstone of sustainable development and social upliftment. With this bursary scheme, coupled with the earlier introduced NELFUND programme, the burden of tuition and financial barriers to learning will be eased, giving room for academic excellence, innovation, and national impact.
“We applaud this courageous decision which aligns perfectly with the education reform agenda currently being driven in the state. It is indeed a clear signal that under the leadership of Governor Okpebholo, no Edo child will be left behind.”
He also commended the vibrant and resilient spirit of Edo students who have remained focused and determined despite various challenges.
The statement added, “Your celebration today is not just about the money, it is about being seen, heard, and valued by a government that truly puts Edo first.
“To every student, parent, and stakeholder in the education sector, this is a call to renewed commitment, academic seriousness, and civic responsibility. Let us continue to support this administration as it lights the path to a greater, smarter, and more prosperous Edo State.”
The Commissioner further gave the assurance that Governor Okpebholo would not relent in his efforts to transform the education sector and the state in general.
