…says 24 persons killed in a day, kidnappings rising
Ben Ogbemudia, Abuja
The immediate past Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and member representing Esan West, Esan Central, and Igueben Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Marcus Onobu on Friday advised Governor Monday Okpevbholo to be alive to his responsibilities in tackling insecurity challenges in the state rather than attacking an opposition party member with a sincere advice.
Hon. Onobu said what is happening in the state is of a great concern to all Edolites, hence everyone must show interest in any form in tackling the security challenges faced by the State.
He said, “As a lawmaker, I have not just raised concerns about insecurity in Edo State; but I have actively sought solutions. My statement in the House was not an attack on the state government but a wake-up call to ensure that security challenges are tackled with a united front. Instead of playing politics, I Rt Hon. Onobun has been at the forefront, engaging security agencies and advocating for federal intervention to protect lives and property in my constituency in particular and Edo State in general.
” It is evident that these criticisms are politically motivated and attempt to discredit my good work. Comparing me unfairly to other lawmakers ignores the unique challenges I have addressed in my constituency.”
Hon. Onobu said his critics fail to acknowledge the developmental strides he has facilitated, choosing instead to spread misinformation for political gain.
He therefore described as baseless the so-called recall threats which he said do not reflect the true sentiments of the majority of his constituents.
“The people who truly benefit from my initiatives understand my commitment to their welfare. My tenure in the House of Representatives has been marked by dedication, service, and tangible progress—something my detractors conveniently ignore.
“As Rt Hon. Marcus Onobun I remains a committed and hardworking representative who continues to prioritize the needs of my people.”
The former Edo State Speaker said the recent attacks against him are nothing but a smear campaign orchestrated by political opponents who fear his rising influence.
He said that Instead of being distracted by propaganda, he remains focused on delivering meaningful development to Esan West, Esan Central, and Igueben Federal Constituency, adding that the people deserve the truth, not politically motivated falsehoods.
“So, The recent attacks on my person by Edo State government are not only misleading but also politically motivated attempts to discredit my hard work and dedication to my people.
“Contrary to the baseless claims, I have been an active and effective lawmaker who has tirelessly worked to bring development and federal attention to my constituency.
“It is outright false to claim that I have not moved any motion or contributed to national discussions. Since my election, I have actively engaged in legislative debates, advocating for policies and projects that benefit my constituents.
My voice has been strong in the Green Chamber, particularly on issues of security, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.”
