…sacks all political appointees
Ben Ogbemudia, Abuja
Hon. Saturday Ezomo, the leader of the Owan West Legislative Council has been sworn in as the acting Chairman of Council as lawmakers impeached the council’s chairman and vice chairman for gross misconduct and financial misappropriation.
Earlier in the hallowed chambers of the Legislative Council of Owan West, the embattled and suspended executive Chairman, Mr Dickson Ahonsi and his Vice Chairman, Victoria Asije were impeached following investigations into a petition for gross misconduct, financial misappropriation and incompetence.
The legislators debated extensively and unanimously voted to impeach him and his vice chairman for the greater good of the Local Government Council.
Mr Ahonsi had initially survived an earlier impeachment for his gross mismanagement of the Council’s funds and also appropriating Council properties for self aggrandizement.
When news of the impeachment of Mr Dickson Ahonsi broke, there was palpable joy in Sabogidda Ora, the headquarters of Owan West and other notable towns, as women and youths came out in their numbers singing and dancing.
As at the time of this report, it was learnt that Mr Ahonsi was making frantic efforts for succour and soft landing by reaching out to the opposition APC and set to dump his erstwhile party the PDP.
Mr Dickson Ahonsi is now amongst those chairmen who have been swept away by the wave of impeachment.
Meanwhile, three other councillors were also suspended for violating the House rules.
