The Police have dispersed supporters of the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from accessing the National Assembly Complex.
Natasha’s supporters had converged on the Assembly’s gate but were dispersed by police officers with tear gas to prevent the protest from taking place.
The protesters also demanded the immediate resignation of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for the alleged sexual harassment levelled against him.
The protesters had converged on the National Assembly gate as early as 8 am with the resumption of plenary and hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition scheduled for today.
Consequent upon their dispersal by the police, reports said that protesters had now moved to the Unity Fountain for their protest.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had clashed with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements on the floor of the Senate on February 20.
She was thereafter referred to the Senate’s ethics committee.
Last Friday, the Kogi lawmaker accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and persecution because she refused his sexual advances.
On Wednesday, just before the sitting of the Ethics Committee tasked by the Senate to probe her for alleged misconduct, she secured a court order halting the proceeding.
Even if the Committee decides to go ahead in spite of the court order, Natasha, a lawyer, will not make herself available.
